Increasing offer of storage solutions in Austria and Switzerland – all surveyed installers interested in battery storage systems

The year 2020 showed an uptrend for photovoltaic (PV) in Austria and Switzerland. In addition to PV systems, a majority of PV installers also offers storage- and electric mobility solutions. These and further results are published in the 13th edition of the Global PV InstallerMonitor 2020/2021©. The survey sheds light on the rooftop PV segment in Austria and Switzerland, and provides exclusive insights from the perspective of the PV installers.

Bonn. The year 2020 was a successful year for PV in both Austria and Switzerland. In Austria, the funding was completely exhausted by the end of the year. Almost 16,000 projects with more than 300 MW of PV capacity were realized. In Switzerland, a new record was set in 2020 while around 430 to 460 MW of newly installed capacity has been added, according to Swissolar. This corresponds to a growth of 30 to 39 percent compared to 2019.

The Global PV InstallerMonitor 2020/2021© targets PV installers in the main European PV markets and Australia. This year, 135 Austrian and Swiss installation companies participated in the survey. In both countries, the increase in PV systems is supplemented by other technologies such as battery storage and electric mobility solutions.

The offer of battery storage solutions increased over the last few years in Austria and Switzerland. While in 2018 about 13 percent of the surveyed installers were not interested in said issue, the share decreased in 2019 and 2020. In 2020, all surveyed installers are already offering or are planning to offer storage solutions in 2021.

Furthermore, the share of installers offering storage solutions increased from 73 percent in 2018 to 82 percent in 2020.

When it comes to electric mobility, about half of the surveyed installers already offer electric mobility solutions in their portfolio. When looking at the countries separately, installers in Austria tend to offer electric mobility products more frequently than installers in Switzerland do.

The Global PV InstallerMonitor 2020/2021© for Austria and Switzerland examines the current market situation from the installers’ perspective. As products to supplement PV systems also play an important role for the PV market, there are additional chapters on storage- and electric mobility solutions included in the report. Furthermore, the study includes the recurring topics of the report such as which module-, inverter- or storage brands installers carry in their portfolio, how and where they purchase their components, and to which extent they are satisfied with the brands they offer.
