The Mexican solar sector has experienced significant growth over the past few years, despite encountering new challenges amid a change in government. According to EUPD Research’s GET Matrix, the country’s cumulative installed capacity increased from 4.7 GW in 2019 to 10.9 GW in 2023. In terms of segments, Mexico installed 7.6 GW in utility-scale PV and 3.3 GW in Distributed Generation (DG) by the end of the same year.
Looking ahead, the Program for the Development of the National Electric System (PRODESEN) aims to add approximately 32.9 GW of solar PV capacity during 2023-2037. EUPD Research predicts that Mexico will achieve 22 GW of cumulative solar PV capacity by 2028.
The Solar + Storage Mexico 2024 was a meeting point for professionals, companies and the most prominent experts in the country’s renewables sector to connect and promote the development of projects that contribute to the generation of clean energy, in response to market demand. The aim was to strengthening the value chain of solar energy and storage in Mexico.
